Donnie Darko, The Scariest Costume For Halloween

Donnie Darko is the early year 2000 classic which hit the big screens and turned into a total flop, however since it’s time as a complete failure the movie has become a total sucess and something of a cult classic overall. For this reason, and owing to the fact Donnie Darko is set around the time of Halloween, many people are now deciding to wear a Donnie Darko mask or a Donnie Darko costume for Halloween.

Donnie Darko is a young and troubled boy who plays the main part in the movie of a guy who sees visions of the end of the world, it’s up to Donnie to save the world and the universe. Donnie see’s many premonitions, one of which is a pretty freaky looking rabbit who is in fact someone from his school dressed in a rabbit costume. The rabbit costume, or Donnie Darko costume as it’s better known, has freaky white eyes, large grey ears and mennacing teethe. A Donnie Darko mask or a full Donnie Darko costume would be the perfect thing to wear if you’re looking for something to really turn heads and stand out this year.

There are just a handful of Donnie Darko costumes and masks to buy on the market today, which one you choose will really depend upon your budget. The mask is obviously a lot cheaper than the overall costume but if you have an extra $20-30 then the costume is certainly worth investing it. What’s more is that the costume is so very popular that once you’ve worn it once you could even resell it if you wanted to.

Vampire Costumes for Kids and Adults

With Halloween approaching fast, it’s time to buy a costume soon. If you are going to a Halloween store, you better do it now because the lines will not be getting any shorter. The easier alternative is to buy your costume online which is always quick and easy. You can order and have it shipped to you the next day if necessary.

With so many costumes out there though, how are you supposed to pick the best one? When I choose a costume, I make sure that it is something that I can wear for years to come. That is why I always stick with a vampire costume. It’s something that I can wear year after year without worrying about it going out of style. If you have multiple kids, this is the kind of costume that can be passed down for years.

There are many different vampire costumes out there, but my favorite ones are the Victorian Vampire Costumes. These costumes have a very old- fashioned look that come in many different varieties.

So if you are stumped this year on on costume ideas, just go back to what works… vampires, ghosts, witches, etc. You will save yourself some stress for this year and many more to come.

Reaper Costume

With Halloween right around the corner now is a good time to be thinking about costumes and parties to avoid the rush in the coming weeks. If you’re looking for a scary theme this Halloween then nothing beats a grim reaper costume for mine. There so simple and inexpensive and most come with great looking accessories to make it super scary. If you go for a reaper costume you will notice there are some fantastic reaper theme costumes like grave ghoul, and cemetery keeper theme’s.

With a Reaper costume sizes are really easy to work out, as some are one size fits most so it’s dead easy to get the best fit (excuse the pun). All will fear the presence of the grim reaper.

Zombie Costumes for Kids: Girl Zombie

What is the fascination of Zombies? Pictures and films depict them as slow and ugly although it’s true more recent films such as “28 Days Later” and “House of the Dead” as two examples, show them to move more quickly.

Essentially a zombie is ‘undead’, in other words a corpse that’s come back to life, but with no control of their own nor any feeling, and they feast on the living turning their victims into more zombies.

With all these types of movies and video games around kids love to dress up in a zombie costume, especially around Halloween and the festive period when invited to parties, and it’s not restricted to boys either as plenty of girls like to dress up in their ‘teenage’ horror girl zombie outfits and walk around with a twisted pose, bent legs and arms, and incredibly convincing make up. In fact there are plenty of videos on You Tube and other video sites where girls show you step by step how to dress and use make up to get the perfect effect. They even go so far as to use latex to create the rotting flesh and wound effects.

Are Zombies real? Some people believe there may be some element of truth in the phenomenon. For example, back in 1980, a man who claimed to be Clairvius Narcisse walked into a Haitian village, however the problem was that Clairvius Narcisse was supposed to have died in 1962 in Deschapelles at the Albert Schweitzer Haitian Hospital, however he stated that he was in some state of paralysis and even saw the doctor cover his face with a sheet presuming his death. He claimed a ‘Bokor’, a Haitian kind of sorcerer had brought him back to life and so Clairvius Narcisse considered himself a zombie.

Scary Costumes for Kids: Skeletons

As the days get shorter and everyone is preparing for the longer colder nights, kids, not being able to play outside turn towards indoor entertainment, watching ‘scary movies’ on television, playing ‘evil’ video games etc. This fuels their imagination and one of the things they love to do is frighten other members of the family, neighbors and friends, especially around Halloween, just for a bit of fun.

One of the many challenges parents face is the Halloween party, either they are holding one themselves or their kids get several invites from their friends and then the problem of what costume to buy their kids for the party. Out of all the most creepy and scary of outfits is probably the skeleton costume. They cover the kids from head to toe in black with the bones of a skeleton image printed onto the garment. You will certainly jump out of your skin if you are not expecting to see someone lurking around the side of the house or in the street dressed in this way, young or older.

What is it with skeletons and why does everyone find them so creepy? Probably because the skeleton is the last mortal remains of a soul who has passed on and it is the only physical ‘proof’ of their existence.

Choosing the right costume can be daunting task for many children and parents before the Halloween season arrives. As the shorter days and longer nights approach, we are reminded that decision time is now.

If you having difficulty deciding, simply look around your streets and towns for the best ideas. You will probably see coffins, witches, demons, goblins, or skeletons hanging from trees or porches. After all, the idea is to scare your family, friends and neighbors.

These designs can be easily made or purchased. Homemade costume skeleton designs start with black clothing with white bones strategically positioned on the clothes. You will be amazed at the artistic talent youngsters have if allowed the chance to use them. If skeleton costumes for children are too hard to find or make, then this may be the one item you decide to purchase for the full affect.

Corpse Bride Anyone?

Last Halloween my family went for a pretty gruesome look for the traditional Halloween fancy dress party that we thrown for friends and family each October 31st – dead bodies!

Now, don’t get me wrong, it took a long time for my kids to convince me that this would be suitable attire for a respectable family, but on further reflection it did seem very appropriate to the haunting goings-on that we had planned.

I dressed in a corpse costume and my wife donned a Tim Burton-style Corpse Bride Halloween costume. We looked erm… fantastic!

My sons wore a ghoul costume each and even the dog had a Dracula-style cape (we couldn’t get him to wear the fangs!).

So, horrific to look at but very appropriate for Halloween. We’ll be dressing the same this year.

What will YOU be wearing?

You could go for a contemporary costume (think of all the movies that have been released this year – they all have costumes available) but if you want to get the most mileage out of it, choose a more traditional/evergreen style that can be used year after year.

Kids Love Scary Costumes – the Scarier the Better!

Halloween is just the best time for dressing up and having lots of fun. No-one gets into the scary costume thing more than the kids.

Now I’m not talking about toddlers and the little pre-schoolers here, I’m talking about kids from maybe about four years old (depending on the child of course) through to young teens.

Many many of them just love to wear scary Halloween costumes, especially boys, mind you I have a ten year old girl in my life who desperately wants a skull costume this year while her father still has visions of her as a Princess or a fairy – that’s going to be an interesting battle – my money’s on the ten year old!

Kids scary Halloween costumes and accessories are getting more and more graphic with zombies with rotting flesh, vampires with blood dripping down their chins and amazing costumes with masks and hand covers that are totally grotesque!!! My kids love them!

I think I’ll have to stay firmly tucked away inside on October 31 and there’s no way that I’m answering the door!

How to Tranform into a Werewolf

Every Halloween, a kids werewolf costume is always very popular with little boys. But did you know the various ways a person can transform into a werewolf, other than buying a halloween costume?

According to Hollywod and popular culture, namely the movies and TV, a person can become a werewolf simply by being bitten by another werewolf. Then, at every full moon, the infected person will transform into a werewolf himself.

However, according to the old legends and beliefs, this is very different from how a person transforms into a werewolf. A person can transform into a werewolf by taking off his clothes and wearing just a belt made of wolf-skin. Another way is to drink rainwater from a wolf’s footprint or drinking from an enchanted stream. Russians believe that by drinking a special beer and reciting an incantation, you can also transform yourself into a werewolf.

Of course, the easiest way to transform into a werewolf is to get a kids wolf costume!

Let’s talk about getting into some Vampire Girl Outfits for 2010′s Halloween season. My daughter and her friends (9 to be exact…maybe more) are all in ka-hoots and conjuring up a scheme for all of them to be variations of vampires.

One wants to be the most scary of them all, another wants to be seductive (15 years of age…AH!) and most want to see who can come up with the most amazing Halloween vampire costume of them all. They’re getting about 30 or so of their classmates for a little party and fashion show for everyone in the group that is only dressed in Vampire Girl Outfits to compete. Should be shock full of drama….LOL!

I’m sure if it’s held here at my house, I’ll be sure to have categories for costumes of other kinds too.

Cheers and Happy Halloween!

Zombie Halloween Costumes

Zombie costumes have always been very popular as a scary Halloween costume. Everyone from adults to kids somehow always either think of vampires, witches and zombies during Halloween. And in recent years, zombies have been increasing in popularity as a Halloween costume.

Despite their vastly different appearance in recent popular culture, vampires and zombies are actually quite similar. If you think about it, both supernatural creatures are undead creatures. The biggest difference is that, whilst vampires look the same, or even better, as when they were living, zombies actually look worse and rapidly decay after death.

That’s why zombies are so scary looking compared to vampires. Hence, there’ll always be lots of demand for a child zombie costume and adult zombie halloween costumes every Halloween!
