It is finally that time of the year that kids look forward to besides Christmas and the one that brings out a tiny worry in adults. Halloween will be knocking on your door inviting you to a getaway party from all those dreaded everyday chores and giving your children a perfect time to have fun on a night out’s trick or treating.

This sounds perfect, only one problem you have no costume for you, or haven’t had time to pick one up for your kid. Perhaps you want something different from the same old scary mask, or the vampire that has been reused from one sibling to another. A retro costume might be your salvation this Halloween.

Retro costumes have been ever so popular and present. They are so simple to create and are not as challenging as you might think. In fact, it can be a perfect way to have fun and interact with your children.

When thinking retro you want to think BIG and colorful. Neon colors are a great addition to your costume from your hair to using tie-dye. Wigs can be in the form of afros, mullets for men, the short flipped out wigs for women or long hair with the front bangs. The 70’s and 80’s introduced the big platform shoes and wide bottomed pants. There was “glam” and lots of shiny sequences, large earrings and fancy retro makeup.

Accessories are easily accessible anywhere during this time and it is more affordable to put a retro costume together than purchasing a whole costume. You can make retro costumes for more than one child and make each as unique and original as they wish. Let this Halloween be a family project whether the costume is for you or for your child
