Possibly the most iconic image when it comes to Alice In Wonderland, other than The White Rabbit, we have come to call this tea drinking party-goer The Mad Hatter, despite the fact he was initially simply The Hatter yet sometimes referred to as crazy.

It is thought that the drawings of The Hatter are based mainly on a furniture seller, Theophilus Carter, from the Oxford community, who also habitually wore a top hat and also behaved eccentrically. We know that Carroll supplied the initial expert illustrator, John Tenniel, a real photo of Mary Badcock, a dean’s daughter, from which to create his images of Alice, hence the thinking behind additional implied models is certainly rational.

Yet a potential source most typically associated with The ‘Mad’ Hatter is the fact that the term “mad as a hatter” was used at the time to actually imply ‘crazy’ and in all likelihood comes from using mercury when fabricating felt, a significant component when making hats.

High-priced hats were made from beaver fur, but cheaper rabbit fur called for some sort of mercury mixture applied in the operation of ‘carroting’, so-called because it turned the fur orange, and hatters inhaled toxic gases and handled processed felt through the typical span of their workday.

In the aftermath of long term exposure, hatters ended up, in effect, poisoning themselves, adversely impacting their nervous systems and they could possibly develop facial tics and irrepressible blinking, slurred speech together with memory loss, a depressive disorder and the symptoms of anxiety, that an observer of those periods might possibly consider indicators associated with insanity.

This specific theory obviously is typical enough to actually have influenced Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland and to be the reason for Johnny Depp’s Hatter’s loose grip on realism, because, if you ever take a close look at The Hatter’s thimble-less fingertips, they seem to be stained orange, exactly the same coloring as his colorful outrageous hair and also eyebrows.

Plus, unlike those things a great many assume, the actual tag located on The Hatter’s hatband is not the measure, but rather a price: ten shillings and six pence.

The Mad Hatter Halloween costume is a tremendously sought after costume meant for Halloween parties or anytime. Mad Hatter halloween outfits happen to be especially popular this year.

The Mad Hatter is probably the best of the alice wonderland costumes because he’s so recognizable and fun. In the riddle he poses to Alice, “Why is a raven like a writing desk?” It’s meant to be unsolved, and if you’re really willing to get into character and give it a go you can just talk gibberish all night and win plaudits for it.
